Product description

The motion

Grate daikon, ginger, or garlic directly into the tray, then slide the top part to adjust the amount of juice retained—one motion, two textures.

Why it's different

An integrated sliding system allows you to choose a juicier or drier texture depending on the preparation, without needing a separate bowl or strainer. Three types of grating (fine, condiment, coarse) and an inclined surface designed for a natural motion.

Why this solution over a grater placed on a plate

The idea of separating the juice from the pulp in a single motion reflects what the Japanese call katachi: form following function exactly, without anything superfluous. In professional Japanese kitchens, this type of tool is kept within reach and used daily for the daikon served with fried dishes, the ginger that enhances fish, or freshly grated wasabi.

Why I chose it

“What I liked here is the very simple detail that changes the way it’s used: the juice drains directly into the designated tray. I really love this type of Japanese solution where you start with a daily gesture and simply look for a way to make it more practical. Nothing spectacular, just a well-thought-out little improvement that avoids needing an extra container.”

You’ll love it if

  • you often grate daikon, ginger, or garlic and are tired of dealing with overflowing juice
  • you are looking for a clever object rather than a decorative one
  • you appreciate simple solutions to a very concrete problem

It’s probably not for you if

  • you are looking for an object made of high-end materials (wood, metal, ceramic); this one is made of polystyrene and polypropylene, designed primarily for functionality
  • you already have a grater that works well for you for these purposes

In practice

Dimensions 25.3 × 9.6 × 6 cm. Polystyrene (grater) and polypropylene (tray), heat resistant up to 60–80°C, not dishwasher safe. Rinse after use and clean the sliding system with clear water.

An object designed to last in daily use

Its material is plastic rather than high-end, but its design remains intended for repeated daily use, provided it is properly maintained: immediate rinsing and no dishwasher.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I control the texture with this grater?

The sliding system lets you choose a juicier or drier texture depending on the dish.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

No, it is not dishwasher safe.

Which foods is it suited to?

Daikon, ginger or garlic.

How to use it?

A Japanese grater is used above all for daikon, the large white radish central to Japanese cooking, as well as ginger and other vegetables.
What it is for: grated daikon accompanies grilled fish, tempura and noodles. It adds freshness and lightens rich dishes.
Grate daikon, ginger or garlic straight into the tray, then slide the upper part to adjust how much juice is kept.
For a light, fresh daikon, keep the juice. For a denser texture (alongside meat or fish), press lightly.
Rinse right after use so the fibres do not dry, and clean the sliding system in clear water.
Plastic body, heat resistant up to 60 to 80 °C: no dishwasher.
Idea: also try it for homemade sauces, a ginger dressing, a ponzu sauce or a seasoning for meat.
Good to know: rinse it right after use: fibres dry quickly and are harder to remove later.
