Product description
Before being a drink, sake is a ritual. Offered to deities in Shinto shrines, poured during weddings and New Year ceremonies, it runs through Japanese life from start to finish, from the sacred to the convivial, without ever losing its gravity.
The maekake is the brewer's garment. In the kura, the sake breweries still found in the Japanese countryside, workers would tie it around their waists each morning before beginning the fermentation work. A gesture repeated since the Edo period, in the same workshops, with the same movements.
This apron, woven in Nagoya, bears the character 酒 as a pattern in the cotton. Sober, direct, immediately legible to those in the know, discreet for others. To wear while cooking, to offer to someone who loves Japan as much as the table.
Care: cotton woven in Nagoya, machine wash at 30°C maximum and do not tumble dry, to maintain the density of the fabric and the clarity of the pattern over time.
