Product description
The pouring technique
Pour with one hand, naturally. The side handle of this Kyusu is not just an aesthetic choice: it brings the hand closer to the center of the teapot and allows you to pour while keeping the lid in place with your thumb.
With a 380 ml capacity, this Kyusu is sized for one large cup or two small ones, enough to prepare tea for yourself without having to take out a large teapot for a simple infusion.
Why it is different
The 18-8 stainless steel body does not retain odors or flavors: you can switch from a sencha to a hōjicha without the previous infusion affecting the next. Its matte black finish, more subdued than brushed stainless steel, absorbs light rather than reflecting it—a discreet look that the natural wood handle warms up by contrast.
Why a Kyusu rather than a classic teapot?
A Kyusu is designed around the Japanese tea ritual: a small capacity, a side handle, and a precise pour. This format encourages you to prepare less tea, but more often, much like brewing a single cup of coffee rather than an entire pot. 380 ml. One infusion. One moment.
Why I chose it
“I chose this Kyusu for the simplicity of the pouring motion. It looks unspectacular at first glance, but everything seems to have been designed to make tea preparation more natural. The side handle, the filter, and the shape of the body work together without complicating the experience. It is exactly the type of object I love: discreet, precise, and pleasant to use every day.”
You will love it if
- you regularly prepare sencha or hōjicha
- you like simple, durable objects
- you prefer to prepare one or two cups rather than using a large teapot
- you are willing to hand-wash it, without using a dishwasher
- you like sober and discreet finishes
It is probably not for you if
- you are looking for a large family-sized teapot
- you want to be able to put it in the dishwasher
- you are looking for a traditional ceramic teapot
In practice
Capacity: 380 ml. Cannot be used on direct heat or in the microwave. Rinse with hot water before the first use. Steep for 1 to 2 minutes for sencha, 30 seconds for gyokuro. Also works for cold tea, with long infusions in the refrigerator. Dry the wood handle after washing to preserve the material; do not let water stagnate inside; no dishwasher, as the wood handle cannot withstand it.
An object built to last
18-8 stainless steel, handcrafted natural wood, Japanese manufacturing: every choice prioritizes durability and utility over fleeting trends. It is an object you can use every day for years, without fear of it going out of style or losing its quality.
