The grain, particularly pronounced on this large format, creates almost graphic patterns depending on the cutting angle of the original wood; no two pieces are identical.

Why this format rather than a classic serving dish

At this scale (φ300 × H90 mm), the woodworking and turning process become immediately visible. The principle remains the same as for the smaller formats: to reveal the wood's material rather than mask it, changing scale without changing the gesture.

Why I chose it

"I was immediately drawn to this large bowl for the presence of the wood. With an object of this size, you really see the work of the material and the turning. I also like the fact that it can completely change the look of a table without needing to be decorative in the classic sense. It is a piece that naturally draws the eye, simply because it is beautiful in its material and form."

You will like it if

you entertain regularly and are looking for a centerpiece that changes the look of the table

you enjoy seeing the wood grain in all its glory on a large format

you are looking for a vessel to share a dish rather than individual plates

It is probably not for you if

you are looking for an individual bowl (see our smaller formats from the Hikiyose collection)

hand washing exclusively does not suit you

In practice

Turned hinoki, protective finish that allows the grain to show through (exact nature to be confirmed).
